Chan will blog about the technical aspects of climbing since he knows much more than I do.
Okay, back to the shoes! These shoes look really fun and interesting. They are perfect beginner shoes with low asymmetry (not going to hurt your feet), good rubber and fun colors! Something else that caught my eye about these shoes were the fact that they are specifically made for smelly feet (I have smelly feet unfortunately.) Before I move on, i'm going to make it clear that I do not work for La sportiva or any corporate company. i'm just telling you exactly what I think from the standpoint of a customer looking for a good product to buy.
They come at a rather reasonable price tag too considering the fact that they are from La Sportiva! Coming at only $99/-. I won't tell you if they are good or not because i'm not buying another beginner shoe for now. I'm looking for a intermediate shoe. However, they definitely caught my eye. These shoes are definitely meant for gym climbing and beginners. They are apparently good on most terrains as well. The base of the shoe is flat, with little to no arch in it at all. There are back loops near the heel of the shoe to help you take the shoe on and off easily. The shoe comes with velcro straps which makes things easy too.
It is also apparently made with breathable material with Airtex silver lining to reduce odors. From the shape of the shoe, it looks rather wide and seems to have good potential to be a really comfortable shoe for a beginner to embark on his or her climbing career. It's also modeled after comic books, explaining the comic book-ish colors.
Weight: 168 g (very light weight)
Upper part of the shoe: 3-Layer WashTex: washable external fabric/ Structural micro fiber/ Internal no-sweat fabric
Last (angle at the front): RL 45 (rounded and large, it's going to be comfortable and roomy with very little asymmetry)
Lining: Airtex Silver (reduces odors)
Rubber: 5mm Frixion RS at the sole
Midsole: Laspoflex/ antishock EVA heel insert (remember that you want a rigid shoe as a beginner so this is awesome!)
Here's how the women's version looks like:
